About Us
My Story
Dena is a filmmaker and founder of Butterfly Road Productions located in Kansas City.
She founded the company in 2018 and works as a Producer, Director, and Writer.
Since 2019, she has completed four films, three of which are short documentaries. Her passion is telling inspirational, passionate and hopeful stories that can inspire her audience. Her first documentary “Finding Peace” was selected for 7 film festivals across the country and won a Best Short Documentary award.
Her second film “Mildred’s Escape, A WW2 Survival Story” has been selected for 7 film festivals and won 3 awards including Best Documentary and Best Local Film.
Her 2024 documentary “Small Town Girl, Big Heart” Abby’s Courage was shot on location in Houston, Texas and has been selected for 11 film festivals and has received 8 award nominations and won 6 awards including Best Short Documentary and Best Inspirational Film.
Dena's latest film is a feature documentary about broadcaster Art Hains called "Voice Unbroken".
This film has an original score and Original song.
So Far, the film has been selected for 8 film festivals, received 7 award nominations and has won 2 awards.
(This documentary is in the film festival circuit throughout 2026).
